Update from Capt Andes

We understand that some people in the Union dont get all the emails and we feel that this info is important to all.

Brothers and Sisters, I hope all are well! Just wanted to update thosethat could not make the meeting last night, we had a great turnout and I hope some information was gained by the two representatives who underwrite for Anthem and other insurance companies. If you want to talk to these men on a quote for your family or your spouse, I can give you their contact number. From what was said last night, the plan for just the employee will be hard to match by any insurance company. Depending on family or spouse's health history a savings could occur with another plan, they said. Again the local is not endorsing any health plan or company, just trying to provide information to you. Please get quotes from a number of companies, then sit down and discuss what's best for your family. Chief Creasy stopped by and spoke with the E-Board on FLSA and Fitch. On FLSA, information still coming in from federal and local levels and Chief Glidewell met with Admin. yesterday to advise them on his findings. From the information I have read, I believe we are in compliance and will be able to continue the mutuals as we do now. As far as the morning shift change and times to relieve, we seem to be opening more cans of worms than solving the issue. Stay tuned! Fitch & Associates were here on Wednesday to meet with Admin. and the CAO, a bullet point presentation was given with the news that the final report will be given to the city sometime in August. We were able to gain a little info from Chief that no down size to the department was suggested and the FTA complex were in the report. Good news on both those fronts! I hope all have a great weekend and please stay safe!

    1. There is no way that this is true. He received a terrible rating from his department. If the mayor and or council awarded him anything then shame on them. We tried asking council for help and got nowhere. Please go to work and be safe!

    2. This was true and the man accepted it......how about that!!! Leadership? Where exactly is this leadership you speak of? Political games are being played while good people suffer. I for one am sorry that it has gotten to this point.

  3. I would like to thank Capt. Andes for his dedication to the betterment of our department. You speak for us all Capt. and you do a great job at it. Teamwork and brotherhood is a lost value within RFD and all great entities must have a voice that demands the right actions, truthful answers, and just solutions. In many eyes RFD is severely lagging in sound leadership, that said, we as dedicated and concerned firefighters (not employees) must act on such descrepencies. Thank you for all the time and effort you put into trying to better not only our department but our livelihood as well.

In all reality, we must put blame where blame belongs. By this point everyone of us knows the chief we're under. None of us should be surprised by what he does. He only does what we allow him to do and what the mayor and city council want him to do. We as his "subjects" have perpetuated this air of do what you want chief and we'll get over it atmosphere. Actually it started well before he was placed in office. From the guys who allowed the department to reduce the amount of sick time earned to the guys who allowed the CDP to be taken away from officer ranks to the guys who allowed the CDP to now be taken away from the firefighters. Its almost part of our culture to grin and bear it. I give credit to the men who marched on city hall to voice their grievances, at least they recognized the downward slope and tried to counteract it.

The only true reason the chief hires so many officers with so few time in is because their cheap. It costs alot less to hire someone for 57500 (the bare minimum) then it does to give a seasoned experienced fighter 5% over the minimum. But what do we do about it...nothing but pout and complain to each other. If you've been done unjustly, get a lawyer and build your case. But please stop complaining, especially if your only plan of action is to come to work the next day.

Our chief is going to keep making cuts, keep making unfulfilled promises and keep pretending that he is none the wiser when confronted with the issues because he knows all we're going to do is....show up for work the next day.

If we really want to get the city's ear and eyes, we need to strike. Organize a day, whichever day has more union members and walk the f*&k off! Or if that is too harsh, we can do a mark off on a grand scale. I guarantee if 20 or more of us marked off but followed the rules by providing a sick note, it would surely cause city council to take note and investigate.

There are things we can do besides rolling over and taking it. We just have to come together and be willing to effect change by force if necessary. This chiefs day is over, its time for a new head. The body is no longer willing to move under his direction.

    1. You are kidding me, right? This is not the way we deal with the problems we face - on the backs of the Citizens we serve, or the Brothers and Sisters we serve with.

My name is MasterRookie and I DO NOT approve that post...

    2. Strike??? Really????.what are you trying to prove?we have problems? We know we have problems....but it could be worse. We do not Strke nor do we do the boulevard flu....we come to work ...we do our jobs....and we look out for the person next to us...and then we go home with our heads up high....we don't have to come down to there level.....master rookies is right with this one all the way...My name is zack and I approve of this post....and keep the faith...

    3. I agree to a point with Master Rookie, We cannot do anything to endanger those we work with or the citizens we serve. However we are getting to a time when we have to get together in force, whether it be Media Blitz, informational picket line around City Hall(off duty personnel). Not doing anything is endangering our Brothers and Sisters as well as the citizens with our current incompetent administration.
