Report Audits

We are really glad we are starting to receive a lot of email from our followers. Here is another issue sent to us. Maybe someone will listen to these firefighters, they seem to make some sense.

Some of you may not be aware of the fact that our fire fighters are being taxed with the task of auditing fire and EMS reports that our officer's cannot complete correctly. We are sending the fire fighters, not the officer's, to training on how to correctly fill out reports. Correct me if I am wrong, but didn't our administration promote the most highly qualified individuals to lead our department? Why can't they correctly complete a report? How are they training their fire fighters to be an acting officer? There is nothing better to hear everyday from the battalion chief than "Have my reports been audited yet?" Not to mention that many of the auditors are at some of the busiest stations. So, between running calls, training, doing centrelearn, and RAPIDS it may be 7:00 at night before there is a chance to even look at the reports. I know you folks down at 201 are at home enjoying time with your families at this time, so this may be difficult for you to understand. To the operations and training staff. Why have our highly qualified leaders not been sent to training on proper reporting. Why are we taxing our fire fighters with this responsibility? If anyone has the facts, please enlighten us.

  1. Yet another burden that falls on OUR backs. Why can't the EMS instructor that we pay $60k+ a year do it? It's not like he is busy teaching classes, we just get the same old center learn crap.

  2. If Officers can't make a report without errors, then they should be sent to learn how and it should show on their progress reports. They are the ones who wanted these jobs, so they are the ones who should be held responsible and accountable!

Firefighters have no business whatsoever in checking reports made by an officers! PERIOD!

Likewise if the firefighters make errors on reports they should be like the all mighty officers who lead them too and have to attend classes.

  3. Where is the pay differential for these individuals? This technically meets the description....You do your job plus someone elses.

  4. I watched our auditor sit down at 8 pm last night. For those not familiar with a firefighters schedule, this was 13 hours into their shift.

  5. I am going to say I was one of the first auditors and 4 years later I am still one. If people could just see, or I am sure they can only imagine the stuff we see in the narratives of these reports. Not only can many of our officers not write a complete sentence they cannot use spell check either. This is a burden to the auditors, and it is frustrating as a firefighter to call a certain captain everyday about the same mistakes. Officers have gotten so lazy that they have firefighters fill out their reports, their excuse they are training them, how can you train someone on something you can't do yourself right. Oh yeah I have tried several times to have the ones that do audits receive a skill in career development, even though it may take up to two hours to audit reports a shift, and we correct a officers mistakes that isn't good enough. But the new career development ( huh whats that ) skills sheet, still has the puppet skill. Do we still have puppets ???? I want that skill, who can train me.

  6. I would like to say as an officer in this department it is not a firfighter's responsiblity to check my reports. Everyone of these individuals should collectively file a grievance. The officer should be held accountable for his/her actions if they are wrong. When these reports are submitted to the state they are returned if they are incorrect, at this point have the officer fix it deal with that individual instead of tasking others to babysit the person being paid to do the job. Of course we all know why this is occuring, the people that are being promoted are not competent to do their job as they are not the most qualified for the position they were promoted to. To take this even further the officer of the shift should be the one doing an audit of their personnel when they act in the officer's abscence, but this is coming from someone who knows how to do thier job properly and doesnt get reports kicked back because of it. We need to start sticking together and having our voice heard, STAY SAFE!!!!
