The rescue engine experiment

We've had the Quint concept. Now we are working with a rescue engine experiment. RFD is buying a rescue engine with no real plan on where its going or what it is going to do. It seems if its going to be a bandaid for whatever rescue piece is out of service or provide 24 with another piece to jump on based on the call.In other words spending $750,000 on something we don't have any plan for? Whats your thoughts?

  1. I think it sounds like a good idea and would work great. But I am a little skeptical also if 24 is going to be a real boat team they need something other than a van to conduct business out of

  2. The chief has said essentially there is no real plan for this unit. We will figure that out after it arrives. While we are in CRISIS mode with apparatus he is blowing money on experiments. It is a slap in the face to the firefighters and more importantly the citizens of Richmond. Also it is perplexing to think that while we just paid $150k for a 3rd party (Fitch & Assoc.) to create a 20 year plan for us, we are going to stray from the norm and do something like this with no real purpose other than to satisfy one mans desires to add to his toy collection or whatever the bizarre motivation is. We fought tooth and nail for 5 years to get the funding for fleet replacement and this is what we do with it! I would NOT like to be the person that has to explain this to the Mayor/CAO/Council.

    Enough is enough.

  3. I thought the thing was going to be Rescue 2!

No one really knows what is happening. The lettering font on the new apparatus to so close that unless you are withing 10 to 20 feet of them, you want know what company it is.

Where are the large door numbers like are on the quints now?? You can see them real good.

  4. Rescue 2 is fighting it being sent there. They are the Heavy Technical rescue team and will have the smallest unit?? Doesn't make sense. Send it to 24 and it can serve as an engine and a semi-Rescue 4.....solves 2 problems at once. Will cut down on Rescue 2 having to respond all the way over there for a door pop or a elevator call.

  5. Remember, it was not too long ago you all were just running old unit 99. You've come a long way. You can thank your leadership for getting you where you are instead of bashing for once.

  6. Old 99 was replaced in 1998 by chief Jack and not by this chief.. thats 14 years ago. And yes, I thank the leadership that we had 14 years ago for doing that.So I dont know why you would bring something like this so many years later. You cant give credit to this admin for something that was done 14 years before there time. It is a shame you did not post your name, you could be on the next promotional list. Please lets play nice in the sand box. My name is zack, what I post here i will say it to your face, and yes I approve this post. thank you

    1. My point is the changes now might be appreciated in another 14 years.

    2. Again, this current administration did not have anything to do with the changes 14 years ago. What changes that this current administration is doing will be appreciated 14 years tron now? Please enlighten us. My name is zack and I approve of this post.

  7. Chief Creecy has purchased a truck that he has no idea what he is going to do with it or how it will operate. Kind of similar to Zoll he has purchased it at over half million dollars only to figure out what to do with it later. What other business or service purchases something that expensive without knowing what they will do with it first? We are not worried about 14 years from now. The chief may not be willing to admit that the quint concept is a flawed system in fear of retribution but the fire fighters don't seem to share that concern anymore. He knows it does not work and silence is a thing of the past.

  8. Ok...the truck is on the line and being built....what is the PLAIN? what station is it going to? The Administration knows...the truck leaves the factory with the number on the side...but we don't know...why?....my nameis zack and I approve of this post.
