Above is the most important post to date on this site. If you look at this site, whether you agree or disagree with any of the posts, you belong at the next meeting. We can't just wait for this administration to retire, and hope that the next one has it all figured out. If we want the concerns being voiced on this blog to be addressed-IT STARTS IN THE UNION!!!
We all have an equal voice/vote in the union, regardless of rank or time served. Like it or not, this is now a young fire fighters department. Gone are the days of old smoke eaters sitting around hee hawing about issues that don't affect you and undermining your opinion. Major topics now being discussed include, but are not limited to, traditional fleet of engine and truck companies vs. the quint concept, more affordable health care, reimplimentation of CDP, and a lot of the topics on this blog.
On any big fire we all work together (as a team) to bring it under control. The union is no different. This department is getting away from us, and now is the time to team up and get this place under control. Don't just write it off-if it goes through the roof all is lost. We only have power in numbers. Come to this meeting; get some water on the fire! Corny, I know, but I love this job and I want to see Richmond Fire restored. HELP!!! -The Hourses Mouth-
new agenda for this year should be employee protection!!!!
Lack of Accountability When was the last time we got a raise Air packs that will kill you Equipment that will kill you Health Care that is killer our wallets Moral that is breaking the hearts of the most loyal to this FD
Well said horses mouth. A quick message for those getting ready to move on to the magical world called retirement, please come to the meeting. Thank you for the years of service and dedication you have provided to the department and the citizens of the City of Richmond. One favor though before we leave this department, please come to the meeting and stand beside your brothers and sisters that will remain after you are gone and help get us on track. The topics above will be addressed and your help and experience is needed. Lets keep our promise and leave this department in a better state then when we joined the ranks. We have seen administrations come and go but I for one cannot remember a time when things got this bad. -Stay safe
RAISES: I will not be able to attend the meeting this month as it is a C-Platoon day however I would like to add my 2 cents regarding raises. I do know that we cannot and should not expect raises until the rest of the city gets them as well. However, If money is so tight city wide how can 201 justify adding 3 new Battalion positions, 2 Staff Battalion positions at $90,000+ a year, and an EMS instructor position that has yet to teach an EMS class at $60,000 a year. Companies continue to mark out of service and city wide raises are pushed back to 2015, but yet we seem to find money for high ranking positions that we have lived without for 150 years. Please ask for an answer from 201 as to where this money is ooming from and why during a world wide econmic crunch it was a justified expense?
I think this web blog is a great idea and has a lot of great facts. I would love to see the union meeting room filled with our members on Jan 19th. my name is zack, thank you
Sitting around the coffee table in the morning and complaining about how bad things are just isn't enough. If you really want to see change and have some level of influence on the direction of this department, then you need to get involved. The Union can be a great vehicle for change, but if our members continue to shrug off meetings we cannot provide the support our Union President needs to get things done. The Fire Chief knows the Union lacks strength through member support, and its time to change that. So get up off the couch and come out to the January meeting and help effect change. A big "thank you" also goes out to the members responsible for this web site. Please continue to keep this a professional and informative blog.
Goodmorning. Again I want to say that I think this blog is great. I woild love to see the meeting on Jan 19 full of our members (old and new). If we have time to post and read this please make time for our meeting and speak in an open forum. I woild also love to see the fire chief. He is the one that can fill in most of the blanks to our questions. Yes chief I know you read this or someone from your staff does and tells you what is on this blog. We all need to act with respect. If I post it here I will also say it to your face. It is my 2 cents and my name is zack and I will be at the meeting..thank you
A representative from Fitch and associates has agreed to attend the union meeting. This will be your chance to tell them what is going on in an unstructured forum. This is your department and your union so let's have a good showing and get some things accomplished.
12,000 views and alot of good comments means you care about this department and that there are some real problems. Do something about it. Show up to that meeting, I sure plan to
I will be at the local at1pm on Thursday until the end of the meeting. I will have union shirts for sale all afternoon. If there are any union members that are working the 40 hour work week this will be a good time for you. Lets see the meeting full Thursday night. My name is zack and I approve of this message. Thank you
Sweet, great job on getting Fitch and Associates at the meeting. Looks like the members were out this week attending association meetings. Great job guys! This is so important....next we will see city council members at the meetings, this is in the works as we speak. We would like to have a different city council member at the meeting every month. CAll someone and get your butts to the union hall.
