Wasteful Spending

Wasteful spending is a very common term in the media. However we would consider the new mattress covers pretty wasteful spending.  Several months after we got our new mattresses, we got these mattress covers  from Bed Bath and Beyond for about 6 dollars a pop. No explanation, no reasoning. Just one day Utility 5 shows up with these.

$6 dollars and ~150 beds equals = $900

900 dollars for something that will not be used! Why on earth did we buy these? Anyone got any info? Couldn't we have gotten some more T-shirts with this? Maybe done something a little more useful with this money? Maybe something pertaining to firefighting?

  1. Lets talk Bat Chief Carl Jackson. This person was never a firefighter anywere, never a single day in an Engine house, never had to take a hiring process for any fire dept, never had to take a promotional exam for any fire dept, but he is a Bat Chief for the Richmond Fire Dept and is making over $96,000, and is in our drop program, and he was given this position 3 years ago. Bat Chief Harknass has been a productive member of the Richmond Fire Dept, has come up the ranks in this fire dept. starting in 1980 and makes $91,000. Bat chief Harknass can work in the field and command companies, Carl cant. Can someone tell the taxpayers why?

  3. I watched hose that Battalion Chiefs cut all the couplings off and trashed that was a year old, because there was "no documentation" that we tested it or purchased a year ago! At least 2000 feet of 4" hose was done this way!

  4. Unbelievable with the hose, when asked by a reporter why was this hose being trashed and not recycled the infamous B-4-B Chief said "it is not safe" WTH why did we have it on the truckls then moron? and if the new hose wasn't tested recently when why didn't you test it with one of those fancy hose tester's they have at 25 ? spend/spend/spend. no concept of cost... and please know pictures were taken .....

    1. You guys need to check your facts first!!!! After fact checking the process I have determined that BC4B is right....1-3/25" & 4.5" hose are the only two sizes we carry.

  5. N95 respirators???? 20 Pierce Quints???? Leasing a fire headquarters???? Building Bridges???? Dual fleet???? For a City trying to weather the economic storm, 5 years without raises and company brownouts where does all of this money come from? Heck building maintenance replaced firehouse windows with fixed pane glass to help save on HVAC costs..... When will it end
